CURRENT ARTIST STATEMENT
Neena Robertson is an artist, photographer, and educator who believes photography is a stepping stone from feeling to understanding. She lives and learns on the territories of the Lekwungen People, known today as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations.
Centering her projects around curiosity allows Neena to reconsider the subjects she has been taught are ‘worth’ devoting time to, and begin to reconnect with her original pursuit in lens based art making. Through film photography she bridges the gap between learning and understanding, where her shutter asks the question and the image becomes the answer.
In 2021 Neena received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in photography from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and is currently working towards her Bachelors in Education at the University of Victoria with plans to graduate in 2026.
Neena has taken part in exhibitions with Access Gallery, Studio Fundamentals, contributed to three Capture Photo Festival group exhibitions and displayed 25+ analog lens based works at her first solo show at The Vault Gallery in September 2022. She currently has a solo show running at the University of Victoria and is pursuing publication for her first photobook.
